City of Portage Joint Municipal Court
The City of Portage Municipal Court was established in April of 2008. We have jurisdiction over traffic and city ordinance violations. On January 1, 2014 the Village of Endeavor joined our Municipal Court.

Court is held on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month.
City of Portage Pre-trials are held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month.
All Court proceedings are held in the Council Chambers and Pre-trials are held in Conference Room One at the Portage Municipal Building.

Notice:
Non payment of fines will result in the following:
- Suspension of Driver's License
- Interception of Taxes
- Attachment of wages or other compensation being paid to you
- Garnishment, seizure or levy against your property, including bank accounts and IRAs
- Filing a delinquent tax warrant with the Clerk of Courts in the county in which you reside and/or own property. This warrant will act as judgment and lien on any real and personal property that you own and may affect your credit rating.
- Suspend and refuse Vehicle Registration
- Suspend hunting and fishing licenses
- Jail Sentence
Procedure for Initial Appearances
The procedure for initial appearances have changed, please read to the end. The City of Portage Municipal Court will be holding initial appearances in house and virtually for anyone who pleads guilty or no contest. If you plead not guilty, you will have a telephone Pre-trial Conference. You will receive a letter in the mail before your court date to let us know what your plea is going to be. There is a written plea form on the website for your convenience. You can submit your pleas by email to dawn.wilcox@portagewi.gov, by fax to (608)742-8623, by mail to 115 West Pleasant Street, Portage, WI 53901 or they can be dropped off in the drop box located in the front of the building. If you choose to do in person instead of virtual, you will receive a letter in the mail when your initial appearance will be held. We will adhere to the social distancing rules. We will be scheduling initial appearances 10 minutes apart and you will be required to wear a mask. There will be a limit of two other people to attend with the defendant. If you choose to do virtual court you will receive an email of when it will be held.
