Portage has over 50 miles of roads to maintain. In order to do this, every year the City rates its roads according the state’s PACER program which determines the status of the roads and what streets to repair. For the last 5 to 6 years, the city has completely rebuilt sections of several streets (Cass, River, Franklin, Cook, Wisconsin, Hamilton, Emmett). The next two years parts of W. Carroll and W. Conant will be reconstructed. In addition to the reconstruction projects, the city applies approximately 5 miles of chip seal and resurfacing those that do not meet the reconstruction criteria.
Pot holes are a recurring issue within the state and Portage is no exception. If there is a pot hole that requires filling, please contact the public works department or your alderperson and they will make every effort to get it filled.
