7/30/2025 - Schneider St Water Main Repair

The Portage Utility Department will be performing a water main repair on Schneider Street, tomorrow, July 30th, 2025. Schneider Street will be closed to through traffic between W. Haertel Street and W. Albert Street beginning at 7:00AM. Customers whose water services fall within this segment of roadway will not have water during the period of repair work. The water outage is expected to begin at 8:00AM. Work is expected to be complete by close of business. We apologize for any inconvenience during this timeframe.

7/30/2025 - Silver Lake Drive Utility Work

7/29/2025

Tomorrow, July 30th, 2025, there will be utility work taking place on Silver Lake Drive between W. Wisconsin Street/CTH-CX and Hill Row. During the utility work Silver Lake Drive will remain closed. A detour route will be posted utilizing CTH-CX, New Pinery Road, W. Collins Street, and Airport Road. The roadway is expected to be back open to the public by close of business on Wednesday, July 30th, 2025. We apologize for any inconvenience during this closure.

USH-51 Resurfacing

7/28/2025

The City of Portage is happy to announce that the DOT will be completing Phase 1 of the USH-51 Resurfacing project on Tuesday 7/29/2025. A portion of USH-51/Wisconsin Street (from Edgewater to STH-33/Cook Street), will be open to traffic sometime tomorrow afternoon (7/29/2025). This will include the intersection of USH-51/Wisconsin Street and STH-33/Cook Street. Detour signage associated with this closure will be removed accordingly. The remaining portion of USH-51/Wisconsin Street (from Cook Street to Pleasant Street), will remain closed through Phase 2, which is expected to be complete in mid-August.

07/21/2025 - Crack Fill

The City of Portage will be performing its annual Crack Fill project beginning Monday, July 21st. Work will include routing and cleaning the existing roadway cracks followed by an application of asphaltic sealer to extend the life of the roadway surface. The City’s contractor will be placing no parking signs along the programmed roadways in advance to allow the surface treatment to be installed curb-line to curb-line. Roadways programmed for this treatment are shown on the attached Maintenance Map. The contractor performing the work will provide appropriate traffic control while work is being performed. The City apologizes for any inconveniences in advance.

USH-51/W. Wisconsin Street Construction

7/7/2025

The City of Portage is happy to announce that their contractor has completed the Utility Replacement project on USH-51/W. Wisconsin Street from Pleasant Street to Edgewater Street, early. As of July 2nd, all City work has been completed. Following the City Utility Replacement work, the Wisconsin Department of Transportation will begin their resurfacing project. This project is currently intended to begin the week of July 14th. Please note, the roadway will remain closed throughout the DOT project, which is expected to be completed in August.

Prospect Avenue Sanitary Repair

6/23/2025

Starting at 8:00AM on Tuesday, June 24th, 2025, the City will be having one of it’s contractors repair a sanitary sewer main on the 500 block of Prospect Avenue. During the repair period, Prospect Avenue will be closed to traffic between Cass Street and Dunn Street. The repairs are expected to be completed by close of business on Tuesday. In association with the USH-51 (W. Wisconsin Street), Reconstruction project, the City of Portage will be shutting the water off on W. Wisconsin Street between Pleasant Street and Cook Street between the hours of 8:00AM and 12:00PM on Tuesday, May 27th, 2025. Customers whose water services fall along this roadway segment will not have water during the shutdown periods. Affected properties will be notified via door hangers.

Reminder, the City of Portage will be reconstructing W. Wisconsin Street, from Pleasant Street to W. Edgewater Street over the next few months. Beginning May 5th, 2025, the roadway of W. Wisconsin Street will be closed from Pleasant to Edgewater.
